Antelope Canyon

"To older Navajos, entering a place like Antelope Canyon was like entering a cathedral. They would probably pause before going in, to be in the right from of mind and prepare the protection and respect. This would also allow them to leave with an uplifted feeling of what Mother Nature has to offer, and to be in harmony with something greater than themselves. It was (and is) a spiritual experience."

The quotation above, from the Navajo Parks & Recreation Department website, is so true... it is a spiritual experience. I am definitely in awe of the place. Personally and photographically, Antelope Canyon was probably my favorite stop on our trek. The slot canyons are one of the few places where it is best to have light that is harsh, bright and directly overhead. We saw some excellent "beams" shining down along the canyon walls. They only last for a few minutes and are best photographed when a good bit of sand/dust gets kicked (or thrown!) up into the air. The only way to see the canyon is with a tour guide authorized by the Navajo Nation.
